Application Controls
Application controls are controls designed to ensure the accurate, complete and valid processing of data from input to output. Based on the type of application under review we use one of the following two approaches:
1. Generic Approach
A generic approach will be followed for most packaged and custom applications. It involves the following steps:
- Determine application controls and system calculations on which to place reliance
- Test input validation controls to ensure the accuracy, completeness and validity of input
- Test controls over processing to ensure the accuracy and completeness of all processing
- Test controls over reporting to ensure the accuracy, completeness and validity of reports
2. ERP Approach
An ERP-specific approach will be followed when testing application controls within an ERP environment like Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, Sage Tetra, Accpac or Syspro.
